November 16 2017 – A GROUP of Zimbabwean gospel singers, Gospel Lifters are confident of changing people’s lives through their music.
“We want to win souls to Christ through our music,” says group leader Sifundo Maphosa in an interview with ZiminSA on Tuesday this week.
Formed in August 2008, all its members are from Brethren In Christ Church and come from Gwanda.
Encouraged by music by Rebbecca Malope, Derri Ndzimande, Dony Dlamini and Deborah, while growing up.
“They were our inspiration,” said Maphosa.
The group which has performed at a number of gatherings in Gauteng has to date recorded two albums.
Special Guest with 10 songs was recorded in 2011 with the follow up in 2013 going by the title More Than Conquerors.
They have also done a DVD of their works which hit the streets in 2016 to a warm reception.
“We are happy with how things have gone so far. We have performed at the Imbizo Family Fun Day with Freddie Gwala and Bonakele.
“We hope to record an album next year to be followed by a DVD later and all things being equal we will tour Southern Africa, West Africa and Europe,” said Maphosa.
He said the groups’ sweet harmonies are woven together with traditional and modern instruments – guitars, marimba and piano to present a sumptuous listening to.
